In High School Calculus class a friend of mine spent a semester working on memorizing the digits of pi. As he memorized them we'd stick up index cards around the perimeter of the room marking his progress. Every Friday he'd recite and we'd verify his progress, cheering him along. I still easily remember the first 5 digits of pi myself! Who says math isn't useful.
My grad school program was heavy on the math, and one class was called "econometrics". For almost a year a friend of mine thought I just had a weird speech impediment that prevented me from properly saying "economics."
In Grad school a friend of mine had a "math show" that played on the campus channel once a week. After our evening class he'd go off to do his live show and the rest of us would gather at my apartment where we'd watch his show and call in trying to get him to do our econometrics homework. Every tuesday night was 'math show party night' - I should re-institute that tradition.
In HS, we had a powder puff game between the Senior and Junior girls each year during spirit week. My jersey number was pi/2 and she was pi^2. Hey, we got extra credit in Calc!
*For extra pi-nerdiness, this post was scheduled to post at 3:14 AM on 3/14. Had Blogger allowed me to post on exact seconds it would have been 3:14:15...:)
